The Savannah Sand Gnats did just enough to sneak past the Asheville Tourists, 4-3, at Grayson Stadium. Savannah pitcher Duane Turner, in particular, had a standout performance. Turner, now 2-6, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 8, walking 4, and allowing 2 runs. Luis Lucero finished to wrap up his 20th save.

Ed Gardner helped out the Savannah cause in the bottom of the fourth inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the right fielder was 1 for 3.

"I just tried to make good contact," said Gardner.

The setback makes Asheville 32-29.
