The Rome Hammers went home winners at State Mutual Stadium, thanks in large part to starter Joe Kidd. Kidd stifled the Greenville Drive, enabling Rome to grab the 6-1 win. The win puts Rome at 37-24 this season.

The Drive had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Hammers going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old first baseman Juan Valle came to the plate. Valle hit a 2-run double on a full count fastball from Greenville hurler Lonnie Williams. It was Valle's 14th double of the year.

"Joe is pitching with a lot of determination and a lot of fire," said Rome manager Aaron Holbert.
