Sand Gnats Deal Drive 6-5 Defeat
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Savannah Sand Gnats eventually prevailed.
A good performance from shortstop Mitch McLaughlin helped the Savannah Sand Gnats defeat the Greenville Drive, 6-5. McLaughlin went 2-3 with a double and 2 walks. He scored 2 times for the Sand Gnats. Savannah pitcher Dave Gaines earned the win, hiking his record to 4-3. Kevin MacMonies suffered the loss.
Mike Nance drove in one run for Savannah. The 23-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the seventh. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Kevin MacMonies. It was his 24th RBI of the season.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Greenville manager Jason Wood. "But we decided not to take it."
The Savannah winning streak has reached 3 games.
