Carney Leads Drive to 8-7 Win Over Sand Gnats
The home crowd had a good time watching the Savannah Sand Gnats and Greenville Drive get after it.

The Greenville Drive topped the Savannah Sand Gnats by a score of 8-7. Leading the way was center fielder Jeff Carney. Carney went 4 for 5 with 4 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 for the Drive. The win was credited to 23-year old right-handed pitcher Tim Lamm in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Pat Manning took the loss.

Had Mario Miranda not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Miranda hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 8-7, in favor of the Drive.

"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Miranda, "but we got it done."

The setback makes Savannah 43-23.
