The first-place Rome Firebirds picked up another win.

Rome shortstop Jorge Mendoza had a 3-RBI performance, which helped his team down the West Virginia Power, 7-3. Don St. John picked up the win with 7.1 innings of work. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 7. On the season, he is now 4-2. Jorge Soto, credited with the save, is now 3 for 6 in save opportunities.

Tied up with the Power in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Firebirds got a boost from center fielder Luis Rivera. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Rivera saw a 0-1 curveball from Jared Smiley and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Rome on top, 2-1.

"Guys seem to be putting together some really nice at-bats right now," said Firebirds manager Aaron Holbert.

Rome is now 46-26, 4 games up in the Southern Division.
