The performance of Jim Smith proved critical in helping West Virginia beat Kannapolis, 5-4. The Power third baseman went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Jeff Lewis closed it out for his 1st save. The 5th-place Power have won 6 in a row.

West Virginia took a 5-4 lead on Jody English's 15th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which English hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Kannapolis pitcher David Velásquez visibly frustrated.
