|
Hickory Crawdads starter Dave Rankin turned in a sterling performance against the Hagerstown Suns, leading his team to a slim, 3-2 win. Rankin, now 7-4, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 3, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. Josh Hughes was credited with the save, his 5th in 5 tries.
Joe Howgill went 1 for 2 with a triple and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Hickory. The former first round draft pick had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jim Richmond. It was his 29th RBI of the season.
"I like what I saw today," said Hickory manager Joakim Soria, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
Hagerstown's current losing streak is now 4 games.
