Delmarva Tacks 5-1 Loss on Hickory

Soggy conditions did not keep Delmarva and Hickory from playing their scheduled game.
The Delmarva Shorebirds beat the Hickory Crawdads, 5-1, at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Starting pitcher Jesús De Jesús was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. De Jesús, now 4-4, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 4, and allowing 1 run.
Luis Pérez had a big 2-run double for the Shorebirds in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Delmarva leading 3-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Dan Townsley and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 16th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Shorebirds ahead, 5-0.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," De Jesús told the Delmarva Gazette.
The Shorebirds have an impressive 59-22 record.
