The Delmarva Shorebirds topped the Kannapolis Intimidators, 4-2, in South Atlantic League action at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of Delmarva pitcher Aurelio Gobbi. The winner was Gobbi. He threw 7.1 innings allowing 2 runs. The loser was Orlando Reyna. Robinson García recorded the save for Delmarva, his 28th of the season.
Ernesto Méndez was 1-4 with a walk for Delmarva. The 22-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the second. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring single off Orlando Reyna. It was his 60th hit of the season.
Said losing manager Osamu Hamanaka: "The at-bats, obviously, needed to be better."
After today's action, Delmarva sits at 48-46, while Kannapolis falls to 50-44.
