The Hickory Crawdads rode a solid performance from 23-year-old starting pitcher José Pérez to a win, beating the Lexington Legends, 3-1, at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. In 5.2 innings, Pérez surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Rob Kennedy earned his 20th save in 26 chances.
Hickory relied on the hitting of Steve Day to pick up the win. The second baseman ripped a run-scoring triple in the top of the ninth inning to put the Crawdads on top, 3-1. For the game, Day had 1 triple and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Day told the Hickory Chronicle.
Hickory raised its record to 54-52 with the win.
