The Savannah Sand Gnats defeated the West Virginia Power, 8-2, in part because of pinch hitter Pete Crawford. Crawford went 1-1 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Sand Gnats. Savannah is now 58-50, West Virginia 55-55.

Tim Simpson had a big 2-run triple for the Sand Gnats in the top of the fifth inning. With Savannah leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Tony González and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 10th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Sand Gnats ahead, 3-0.

"We'll need a much better effort, the next time out," said losing manager German Melendez.
