Suns Popped by Tourists, 6-0
|
Asheville Tourists starter Mike Piper turned in an exceptional performance against the Hagerstown Suns at McCormick Field, resulting in a Asheville win, 6-0. Piper, the winner, moves to 4-9. He threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 10 and giving up 2 walks. Asheville now sports a record of 62-59.
Chris Davis had a big 2-run double for the Tourists in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Asheville leading 3-0 and the bases loaded, he got a changeup from 27-year old right-handed pitcher Buddy Craig and swatted a double to left. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Tourists ahead, 5-0.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Lonnie Chisenhall.
