Augusta left-hander Alan Melvey pitched his team to victory over the Savannah Sand Gnats at Grayson Stadium. The final score was 5-3. Melvey, the winner, moves to 7-6. He threw 8 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 4 walks. Picking up the save was Pete Bryan. He's now 33 for 34 in save chances.

It could have been a different outcome for Augusta, had it not been for Pancho Soto, the 24-year old shortstop . Soto contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put Augusta up, 4-3.

"Alan has the heart of a gladiator," said Augusta manager Troy Tulowitzki.
