The Kannapolis Intimidators got a marvelous performance from pitcher Freddy Martínez. The left-hander kept the Hickory offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 4-2 Kannapolis victory at L.P. Frans Stadium. The win for the Intimidators raised their record to 68-66.

The Intimidators benefited from a costly error in the top of the fifth. With Sammy Simmons at bat and Kannapolis leading 3-2, the Hickory miscue allowed Kannapolis to plate 1 and take the lead, 4-2.

"Hats off to Freddy," said Kannapolis manager Osamu Hamanaka. "He was good."
