Gutiérrez Socks 2 Homers in 6-3 Win
|
The 6-3 West Virginia win over Williamsport was due in large part to Jesús Gutiérrez. The Black Bears left fielder went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Tony González, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held the Crosscutters to 3 runs on 2 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 2. Ken Roy earned his 1st save, after closing out the game.
Danny Drake aided the West Virginia cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the second baseman went 1-3.
"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Gutiérrez told the West Virginia Observer.
Williamsport drops to 4-8.
