The DSL Mariners topped the DSL Cardinals, 7-4, with youngster Jesús Méndez playing a key role. Méndez went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 and driving in 2 for the Mariners in the win. Juan Bustamante was the winner. He's now 2-1. The loser was 23-year old left-handed pitcher Iván Rodríguez. Dan Leonard earned the save for DSL, his 4th of the year.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Norberto Rodríguez? The DSL catcher had a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Mariners on top, 3-1. For the game, Rodríguez had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"I keep on showing up every day and trying to put up good at-bats and find good pitches to hit," said Méndez.
The defeat makes DSL 7-10.
