With Late Score, Phillies Beat Astros
|
Hurler Jesús Baca gave the DSL Phillies a solid start. The native of San Juan de la Maguana, San Juan (Dominican Republic) helped his team defeat the DSL Astros, 2-1, at Houston Astros Complex Orange. DSL reliever Ira Edwards was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Brad Thompson took the loss. The triumph puts DSL at 11-8 for the season.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Dave Shelton? The 22-year old center fielder Shelton stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put DSL up, 2-1. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"We busted our tails," said DSL manager Matt Summers. "But we came up short."
