The timely hitting of Bryce Harper helped the Washington Nationals down the Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-4. Harper went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 times for the Nationals. Dominic Bingham picked up the save for Washington, his 28th of the year. The Nationals lead the National League East Division by 9 games.

Nick Castellanos had a big 2-run home run for the Nationals in the bottom of the third inning. With Washington leading 2-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a sinker from Luis Gallegos, who finished 2nd in the NL in strikeouts with 193 last year, and punished it. The result was his 12th home run of the season, which put the Nationals on top, 4-0.

"Just trying to keep things simple and helping the team win any way I can," Harper told a local reporter after the game.
