Chris Ford, who leads the AL in quality starts with 13, propelled his team to victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. The final score was 4-3, Minnesota. Picking up his 12th save was 27-year old right-handed pitcher Pat Calhoun. Minnesota is now 45-46, Tampa Bay 41-49.

Carol Westerhout went 1 for 3 with a walk for Minnesota. The 23-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring walk off Bobby Young. It was his 16th walk of the season.

"I can't say enough about Chris," said Minnesota manager Robin Ventura. "He stepped up when we needed him."
