Fresno got a decent performance from pitcher Phil Perkins, but it wasn't enough to beat the Iowa Cubs. Iowa won the Chukchansi Park contest, 6-2. Perkins threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Iowa pitcher Virgil Peterson earned the win, hiking his record to 3-0. Phil Perkins suffered the loss. Alex Ferguson earned the save for Iowa, his 2nd of the year.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Bob Smith? The Iowa left fielder had a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Cubs on top, 2-0. For the game, Smith had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"We did a lot of things right," said Smith.

The Cubs upped their record to 21-21.
