Jim Richmond, who leads the PC in strikeouts with 59, never let the Cubs get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his changeup, to pitch the Grizzlies to a win, 2-0. Getting the save was Andres Sanchez, his 1st. The win for the Grizzlies raised their record to 25-19.

The action was intense with no one out in the top of the sixth inning. With a runner on 1st and Iowa trailing 1-0, Jim Richmond had to face the 28-year old center fielder Bob Smith, who was hoping to turn the game around. It was not to be, as Smith hit into a double play.
