Quakes Earn 9-8 Win Against Ports
The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes withstood a fine game by Stockton third baseman Pepe Herrera at LoanMart Field, to upend the Ports, 9-8. Herrera was 4-5 with a double, 3 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. The second-place Quakes hiked their record to 46-38.

The decisive blow was delivered by Elroy Long in the bottom of the 15th when he hit a run-scoring double off 24-year old right-handed pitcher Jim Unknown to win the game for Rancho Cucamonga. The home crowd went nuts.

"It was terrific getting this win," Long said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
