The High Desert Mavericks knocked off the Inland Empire 66ers, 11-3, in California League action at San Manuel Stadium. High Desert pitcher and Puerto Ayacucho, Venezuela, native Sergio Román had an outstanding performance. Joe Heisey earned the save, his 2nd in 3 tries. The Mavericks now have a mark of 62-48.

Juan Mena had a big 3-run home run for the Mavericks in the top of the eighth inning. With High Desert leading 6-3 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a forkball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Josh Freedman and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Mavericks on top, 9-3.

"Sergio pounded the strike zone and made good pitches when he needed to," said High Desert manager Vance Wilson.
