Mets 5-2 Winners Over Palm Beach
|
The St. Lucie Mets spoiled a good performance by Palm Beach catcher Doug Stephens, bumping off Palm Beach, 5-2, at Tradition Field. Stephens went 2 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. Orlando Tavárez, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 3.2 innings. Kel Turner earned save number 1 this season.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the seventh inning, but Raúl Lópes didn't flinch. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Palm Beach trailing 2-1, Lópes retired Chuck Edwards to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Lópes, with a wink.
The Mets, now 2-0, have been playing some good baseball.
