Lakeland Earns 4-3 Win
|
The Lakeland Flying Tigers knocked off the Jupiter Hammerheads, 4-3, in Florida State League action at Joker Marchant Stadium. Lakeland pitcher and Leon Valley, Texas, native Greg Carr had an outstanding performance. Ignacio Mendoza, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-0. He allowed 3 runs on 4 hits in 1 innings. The Flying Tigers, now 8-3, have been playing some good baseball.
The decisive blow was delivered by Chip Wurzburg in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 23-year old right-handed pitcher José Sánchez to win the game for Lakeland. The home crowd went nuts.
After the game, Lakeland manager Donald Lutz applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
