Cardinals Score Late to Beat Stone Crabs, 2-1
|
Charlotte got a terrific performance from pitcher Rubén González, but it wasn't enough to beat the Palm Beach Cardinals. Palm Beach won the Roger Dean Stadium contest, 2-1. González threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. The Stone Crabs fall to 4-12 and continue their unimpressive start to the 2026 season.
The Cardinals were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 20-year old catcher Jung Choo landed a big blow. He turned a full count fastball from Cliff Apsley into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Roger Dean Stadium denizens into a frenzy and sent the Cardinals home with a thrilling 2-1 win.
"This place was rocking at the end," Choo said.
