The bats were silent much of the day at Space Coast Stadium. But 23-year old third baseman Ed Hampton produced just enough offense to carry the Manatees past the Charlotte Stone Crabs, 3-2. Hampton was 2-3 with 2 home runs. The win was credited to César Rivera in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Ed LaGarde took the loss. The Manatees go to 18-26 with the win.
Hampton had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a full count fastball from Ed LaGarde, he banged a solo home run to left, giving the Manatees a 3-2 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Hampton.
"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said Hampton.
