Blue Jays Curb Flying Tigers, 3-1
|
Dunedin pitcher Artie Hurley had a large part in his team subduing the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 3-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. The winner was Hurley. He threw 6.0 innings allowing 1 run. The loser was Shawn Major. Randall Colwill locked down his 15th save.
The Flying Tigers had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Blue Jays going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old right-handed pitcher Julián Flores came to the plate. Flores hit a 2-run home run on a first pitch curveball from Lakeland hurler Shawn Major. It was Flores's 6th home run of the year.
Flores said his team "executed a good game plan."
The loss makes Lakeland 40-9.
