The Daytona Tortugas outlasted Jon Downing and the Dunedin Blue Jays, 8-6. Downing was impressive in the loss. The Dunedin pitcher threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Daytona reliever Stan Shaw picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Julián Flores absorbed the loss. Daytona raised its record to 36-20 with the win.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Micheal Garland came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Dunedin pitcher Julián Flores, he hit a 2-0 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Daytona on top, 4-3.
"It's nice to see a lot of guys make contributions," said Tortugas manager Mac Stewart.
