The Manatees grabbed a win, 6-5, at Space Coast Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Tampa pitcher Duane Carter. Carter went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Jerry Ross snagged the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits over 2.2 innings. He's now 1-1 on the season. Johnny Blackwell was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 11 of 13 save opportunities.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, Ken Campos was at the plate when Brevard County scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Manatees to go in front, 6-5.

"Nice to get this one," said Campos. "We've been scuffling."

With the win, the Manatees are 19-45.
