Mets Take Down Marauders, 7-6

The Bradenton Marauders could not turn a fine performance from first baseman Bob Thompson into a win. Instead, the St. Lucie Mets prevailed, 7-6, in 11 innings. Thompson went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Mitch Smith picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-3. Steve Russell, who is tied for 5th in the FSL in saves with 18, was tagged with the loss. The winning streak has now reached 5 games for St. Lucie.
Noel Owens went 1-5 for St. Lucie. With one out and the game tied in the top of the 11th inning, Owens, who is tied for 9th in the FSL in bases on balls with 45, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Bradenton hurler Ernesto Paredes, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Mets a 7-6 lead.
