The Charlotte Stone Crabs and Tampa Yankees obliged fans hoping for an exciting game.

The 9-8 Charlotte win over Tampa was due largely to Dan Stevenson. The Stone Crabs shortstop went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs. Charlotte reliever Dan Collins picked up the win, upping his record to 10-2. António Martínez took the loss. Josh Cox got the save, his 27th in 30 chances.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder José González came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Tampa pitcher António Martínez, he hit a 1-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Charlotte on top, 9-8.

"You can't hate how you win if you win," said Charlotte skipper Brad Salmon.

Tampa has now lost 4 consecutive games.
