The Peoria Chiefs defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 14-5, at Dozer Park. Peoria third baseman Ron Campbell had a superb performance. He went 3 for 5 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Peoria pitcher Jorge Piñeiro got the win. He's now 4-0. Rob Byrd was tagged with the loss. Mike King earned save number 1 this season.
Dave Campbell had a big 2-run double for the Chiefs in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Peoria leading 6-3 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Víctor Valdés and swatted a double to right. It was his 13th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Chiefs ahead, 8-3.
"Their at-bats were really impressive against us," said losing manager James Hoyt.
At 15-14, the Chiefs claim third place in the Western Division.
