With 7-4 Win, Cubs Improve to 19-18
|
Juan López did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Bowling Green Hot Rods from being beaten, 7-4, to the South Bend Cubs at Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium. López went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times. The win went to Randy Nelson in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Curt Nelson took the loss. Today's win puts South Bend at 19-18, while Bowling Green falls to 18-19.
Phil Lind hit a bases-clearing triple off Curt Nelson in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Cubs in front, 7-4. Lind had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 4.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Lind told the South Bend Gazette.
