The Bowling Green Hot Rods extended their winning streak.

Bowling Green got a strong outing from Jake Canavan as the Hot Rods defeated the South Bend Cubs, 5-1, at Bowling Green Ballpark. Bowling Green has run its win streak to 8 consecutive.

The Cubs had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Hot Rods going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old center fielder Chris Jones came to the plate. Jones hit a run-scoring double on a 2-2 fastball from South Bend hurler Rodrigo Vargas. It was Jones's 9th double of the year.

Said losing manager Taylor Davis: "It's very easy to sit in an ivory tower and critique the pitching, but the bottom line is we need to score runs."
