Hot Rods Come Back Late to Clip Cubs
South Bend got a valiant performance from pitcher Marcus Kerklaan, but it wasn't enough to beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Bowling Green won the game, 6-5. Kerklaan threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. South Bend, at 43-38, has lost 4 straight.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Bowling Green left fielder Jendrzej Geremek, facing Artie Maddox, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Hot Rods the 6-5 win.

"It's great when the crowd is energized," Geremek said.
