Whitecaps Down Hot Rods, 7-3
|
The first-place West Michigan Whitecaps took on the Bowling Green Hot Rods in front of a spirited crowd.
The West Michigan Whitecaps used the hitting of left fielder Balduíno Vecchi to subdue the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 7-3. For the game, Vecchi was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The winner in relief was Rob Gachinsky. He is now 1-3. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings.
Vecchi had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 1-1 fastball from Damian Clark, he banged a grand slam home run to right, giving the Whitecaps a 7-3 lead. It was the 10th home run of the year for Vecchi.
"I'm trying to see the ball big, see the ball up in the zone and put the barrel on it," Vecchi told the West Michigan Citizen.
With the victory, the Whitecaps upped their record to 56-28.
