Led by Bob Benton, the Lansing Lugnuts defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 8-5. Benton went 2 for 6 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 3 for the Lugnuts. Lansing reliever Bobby Thomas snagged the win, upping his record to 6-1. Mike Barry shouldered the loss. The loss makes Bowling Green 63-50.

The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Bob Mercer came to bat in the top of the 12th. Facing Bowling Green pitcher Mike Barry, he hit a first pitch cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Lansing on top, 6-5.

"Just glad I could help us get a win," said Mercer.
