The South Bend Cubs pinned a convincing loss on the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 17-3, at Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium. Yu-wei Liu was a main factor in the win. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4 for South Bend. Rodrigo Vargas earned the win, while 25-year old right-handed pitcher Doug Ford took the loss for Bowling Green. The Hot Rods, at 63-54, have lost 6 in a row.

Rob Wade had a big 3-run home run for the Cubs in the bottom of the third inning. With South Bend trailing 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a slider from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Doug Ford and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Cubs on top, 4-2.

"It was a tough day, no getting around it," said losing manager James Hoyt.
