Kerklaan Too Tough, Blanks Bowling Green Monday, August 17th , 2026 The Bowling Green Hot Rods manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the South Bend Cubs. The Hot Rods were overpowered by South Bend starter Marcus Kerklaan, who hurled his club to victory, 8-0. "It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," James Hoyt said. Over 9 innings, Kerklaan blanked Bowling Green on 4 hits with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. "I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Kerklaan said. "I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
