González Tosses 5-0 Shutout for Lexington Tuesday, May 28th , 2024 Leonardo González of the Lexington Legends was on top of his game. The 21-year-old tantalized the Rome Firebirds with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 5-0. "He had the changeup working," Rome manager Jeff Bianchi said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower." The Lexington hurler had 10 strikeouts, gave up 3 walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort. González told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league." "If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said. So far this season, González has logged a 4-2 record with a 3.34 ERA. He has started 9 games, hurled 64.2 innings and registered 71 strikeouts and 20 walks. View Boxscore |
