George M. Steinbrenner Field was the site of a competitive game between the Tampa Yankees and St. Lucie Mets.

Tampa got a big-time effort from pitcher Pat Todd, but it wasn't enough to keep the St. Lucie Mets from winning the game, 5-3. Todd threw 7.2 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Earning his 3rd save of the year was Luis Lucero.

Bob Short came through with a big-time hit for St. Lucie. The pinch hitter smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 5-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

Short called the win "a team effort."

At 6-3, the Mets have played well so far.
