Franchise Chicken or Franchise Egg?

Today’s Daily Dose makes the assumption that we all have experienced the shift away from franchise modes being far-and-away the most popular modes in sports games. There’s no denying that online gameplay and card-trading modes have brought a tremendous amount of growth, potential, and earnings to their respective titles, and we’ve now seen an enormous shift in what modes are most popular among sports gamers today. So in your opinion, how do we merge these two worlds together? Should game studios look to bring the modern gamer into franchise mode by enhancing the mode into something more enticing and community-based, or is it the expectation of gamers today to spend more time in the mode, thus giving it more attention and constructive criticism that the game studios won’t be able to ignore.
